Jammu and Kashmir displayed exceptional batting skills on the first day of the Ranji Trophy final match against Karnataka, which is being played in Hubbali. J&K chose to bat first and closed the day with 284/2 in 87 overs, with Shubham Pundir (117*) and Abdul Samad (52*) at the crease during stumps.


 


It was hard to get past the initial phase. The Karnataka bowlers kept their lines intact while they tried to test the skills of the J&K openers. Prasidh Krishna got the first breakthrough when he dismissed Qamran Iqbal after he added 6 runs to the total. KL Rahul made a quick catch after the ball edged to him at second slip.


 


The team was able to overcome the loss they incurred when Yawer Hassan and Shubham Pundir made a good batting partnership. They added 86 runs to the total at the second wicket position before the lunch break. Hassan batted steadily as he reached the half-century mark after 77 balls. He batted well after that but could not get past his century target. Krishna came back to bowl his second spell, which led to him getting Hassan out at 88 runs when KL Rahul caught him in the slips.


 


Pundir kept his composed stance throughout the day. He achieved his half-century mark after lunch and continued to play patiently throughout the game. He completed his remarkable century with a six hit by Shikhar Shetty. The batter played an outstanding innings, which helped him remain composed throughout the crucial phases of the historic final match.

Samad’s Late Burst Lifts J&K to 284/2 on Day 1

 


Captain Paras Dogra had a tough time while batting in the field. He played as many as 48 deliveries to score 9 runs before getting retired hurt after injuring himself off Vijaykumar Vyshak's short pitch delivery. Dogra had to leave the game after scoring 9 runs as the physios had to check on him.


 


Abdul Samad joined Pundir in the middle after Dogra's exit. He started his innings with caution but soon changed to an aggressive approach. He hit Vidyadhar Patil for three consecutive boundaries in one over, which helped J&K reach a total of over 200. He attacked Shreyas Gopal later by hitting both a four and a six in the same over. J&K scored 44 runs in the final 10 overs while they continued to display their aggressive batting performance.


 


The Karnataka bowlers have given their best performance throughout the day. Krishna, Vyshak, and Patil have been able to maintain their discipline in bowling, which helped them get plenty of opportunities to take wickets. However, the team could only take two wickets throughout the day.


 


The J&K team are in a dominating position at 284/2 during the end of the day's play. With Pundir and Samad out in the middle, the team will aim to score a substantial number of runs in the first innings on Day 2.
