Fire TV Stick users in the UK are about to receive a very handy free upgrade. Amazon has just confirmed that it's boosting the Fire TV mobile app with a swathe of new features aimed at making it more useful. Once the update arrives, the app turns smartphones into a second screen. This means users will be able to browse and discover content, manage watchlists and play titles on the TV from the mobile app.
It's also been fully redesigned and refreshed to make it look more like the new Fire TV experience, which is set to arrive on screens later this year and make things look more modern, along with speeding up overall performance.
Just as before, this application can also be turned into a virtual remote control with full functionality available. So, if you lose the physical channel changer, you can still switch what you are watching, load menus and pump up the volume.
Amazon says the Fire TV mobile app update is starting to roll out today and will be available to all customers in the UK over the coming weeks.
"Amazon's redesigned Fire TV mobile app, introducing new features that will transform how you interact with your Fire TV experience, will be first available to customers in the UK starting today," Amazon confirmed in an email sent to Express.co.uk
"While millions of customers already use the Fire TV mobile app as a backup remote, the enhanced version improves the experience by adding powerful new features that extend entertainment beyond the TV screen.
"The app now enables you to browse content, manage your watchlist, and play titles on your TV-all with a refreshed look and feel that matches the new Fire TV experience."
