Mumbai: BAFTA Award winning Manipuri film ‘Boong’ will once again reach the audience. Farhan Akhtar has announced its re-release date, which has created a wave of excitement among the audience. This film has brought laurels to India by winning the BAFTA Award in the Best Children and Family Film category.
‘Boong’ is the first Indian film to receive this honor at BAFTA. At the 79th BAFTA Awards, held on 22 February 2026 in London, it won, beating out significant competition, such as Lilo & Stitch, Zootopia 2 (or Zootropolis 2) and the French animated film Arco.
The story of the film revolves around a young child and his single mother living in Manipur, who are dealing with the sudden disappearance of their father. The film presents a beautiful story of innocence, family love, courage and hope that is special for audiences of all ages. The debut film, directed by Lakshmipriya Devi, is produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment.
The film was initially slated for a limited release in September 2025 in select theaters (primarily at PVR Inox), but is getting a wide release across India following its BAFTA win. Farhan Akhtar wrote on social media with the new poster of this film, ‘A journey of failure, love and courage. India’s first BAFTA Award winning film will be seen in theaters on 6 March 2026. This announcement was made on 27th February 2026 and now the audience is eagerly waiting for 6th March.
The BAFTA win has not only brought global recognition to Manipuri and North-Eastern cinema, but also provided a huge opportunity to bring stories in regional languages into the mainstream. This re-release version of ‘Boong’ will hit more screens, allowing more audiences to enjoy this heart-touching story.
