Ranchi: Former Team India captain and Chennai Super Kings icon Mahendra Singh Dhoni has run into trouble in his home state Jharkhand over alleged misuse of a residential plot.
A notice has been served on Dhoni by the Jharkhand State Housing Board pointing out that the plot was allotted to the two-time World Cup-winning captain strictly for residential purposes.
However, authorities have claimed that the property is being used for commercial activities, which constitutes a violation of the terms under which the land was granted, an official confirmed.
Jharkhand State Housing Board chairman Sanjay Lal Paswan told Aaj Tak that it had actually allotted land to several people for residential purposes. However, when they came to know that the land was being used for commercial purposes, notices were sent to Dhoni and several officials and dozens of others, asking why the land was being used commercially.
The controversy erupted after there were reports of a diagnostic facility being operated from Dhoni’s Harmu Road premises. It led to an inquiry initiated by the Housing board.
Findings of the inquiry prompted the board to issue a final notice to Dhoni seeking an explanation regarding reported misuse of the property.
Paswan said in case of a failure to comply with the notice or provide a satisfactory response, the board could initiate proceedings to cancel the allotment of the plot.
Dhoni used to reside at the under-scrutiny property on Harmu Road, but presently lives in his newly-constructed residence situated on Ring Road in Ranchi.
