Gandhinagar. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Saturday launched the nationwide HPV vaccination campaign from Ajmer, Rajasthan. In his virtual presence, the state level HPV vaccination mega campaign was launched in Gujarat in the presence of Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel and Health Minister Shri Prafulbhai Panseria at Sola Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad.
On this occasion, Health Minister Shri Prafulbhai Panseria said that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Gujarat has been polio free since 2007 and now the vaccination system has become simpler and more effective than before. Earlier, vaccines for diseases for which had to be imported from abroad, today India is capable of helping other countries by making its own indigenous vaccines. This is a big achievement of self-reliant India.
The Health Minister said that the priority of the government is that no person should die due to lack of medicine or money. For this purpose, the limit of treatment under Ayushman Card has been increased from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. He appealed to the people to stay away from superstition and rumors and said that the HPV vaccine has been prepared completely scientifically under the supervision of doctors.
The Gujarat government spends more than Rs 240 crore every year on vaccination of children. Now HPV vaccine has also been included in this program. The price of one dose of this vaccine in the market is around Rs 3000, but the state government has decided to make it available completely free of cost by making a provision of Rs 150 crore.
Under this campaign, a target has been set to vaccinate about 5.50 lakh adolescent girls who have completed 14 years and are below 15 years of age. Cervical cancer ranks second among cancers in women in India. HPV-16 and HPV-18 viruses are mainly responsible for this. To prevent this, a safe and effective quadrivalent HPV vaccine will be made available.
For the successful conduct of the campaign, 2297 trained vaccination teams and the same number of cold chain points have been activated. To maintain the quality of the vaccine, storage arrangements have been made at +2 to +8 degree Celsius temperature. Also, real-time monitoring and tracking will be done through TeCHO+ and SAFE-VAC portal.
With the message 'Save your daughter from cervical cancer, get the HPV vaccine on time', the government has urged all the parents to get their 14 year old daughters vaccinated and ensure their cancer-free future.
