The ‘India AI Summit 2026’ emphasized on the widespread use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the cancer treatment system. A high-level seminar on ‘From Innovation to Impact: Scaling Trusted AI for Cancer Care’ was organized at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi in association with National Kaiser Grid (NCG) and India AI Mission. There was a detailed discussion among representatives of government, research institutes, medical sector, technology sector and philanthropic organizations on how AI solutions can be implemented in the actual hospital system at various stages such as cancer screening, diagnosis, treatment decision support, patient engagement and treatment coordination. Vijay Nehra, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology S. Krishnan highlighted the need to strengthen the public digital health “infrastructure. Coordinator of National Cancer Grid Dr. Pramesh expressed his belief that digital tools and AI will revolutionize healthcare in the next few years, adding that the partnership between NCG and India AI will be key in providing data-driven, comprehensive and high-quality cancer care. It aims to accelerate the testing, implementation and expansion of AI solutions in the cancer treatment system across the country. This initiative is considered as an important step towards making cancer treatment more effective, comprehensive and technology based.
The institutions selected for CATCH grants include renowned technology companies and have partnered with various cancer hospitals in the country. It includes Tata Memorial Hospital, Christian Medical College, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Center, Homi Bhabha Kaiser Hospital and Research Center etc. Each winning organization was awarded a grant of Rs 50 lakh to implement and validate their solutions in a real clinical environment.

India AI-NCG Cancer AI Ad Technology Challenge (CATH: CATCH)’ grant winners were felicitated on this occasion. Also published ‘Kench Kapidium’ containing 28 AI solutions ready for real-world use in the field of cancer. These solutions provide examples of how technology can be used at various stages from screening to treatment management. Dr. Rajeev Bahl expressed the need for rigorous scientific verification, evidence-based evaluation and responsible implementation framework for AI solutions. The impact of AI will depend on proper validation and proper integration with the health system, he said.
