Aiden Markram, the captain of South Africa, expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance following their victory against Zimbabwe in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup. He emphasized the contributions of the bowlers and fielders during the match.
Zimbabwe batted first and set a target of 155 runs. However, South Africa's opening batsmen struggled, with Markram dismissed for just four runs and Quinton de Kock failing to score.
Markram noted that the middle order faced significant pressure during the chase and encouraged them to rise to the occasion to secure a straightforward victory.
South Africa has successfully qualified for the semifinals as the top-ranked team from Group 1, maintaining an unbeaten record in the tournament. They previously defeated New Zealand and will face them again in the semifinal scheduled for Wednesday in Kolkata.
"It’s great to secure the win. Adjusting the team can be challenging, but our bowlers and fielders performed exceptionally well today. While we could have been more precise with the bat, it was beneficial for the middle order to face some pressure and emerge victorious. It’s essential to give opportunities to those who work hard behind the scenes, as they may be needed later. We’re looking forward to an exciting semifinal against New Zealand in Kolkata. We need to play a solid game of cricket and respect the 40 overs ahead of us," Markram stated after the match.
After limiting Zimbabwe to 153 runs for 7 wickets, South Africa successfully chased down the target in just 17.5 overs, winning by five wickets and continuing their unbeaten streak in the tournament at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
