After the match between India and the West Indies, the guest captain, Shai Hope, snapped back at a journalist after he questioned Hope's innings. Notably, Shai Hope, who opened the innings for his team, played a slow innings, with 32 runs coming from 33 balls. Varun Chakravarthy rattled down his stump, leading to the conclusion.
After a 5-wicket defeat to India, the semifinal dream for the West Indies shattered on the very Eden Gardens, where they won the tournament ten years before. In the post-match press conference, when a journalist questioned him about his sluggish innings, Hope did take the blame but laughed at the former.
On the mic, Hope admitted that he should have "batted a lot faster." He even said that he was planning to take on the spinners in the middle. But he goit dismissed early. In the pressy, he said,
"You all make me laugh, man. Yes, I'll take the blame if that's what you want me to say. I should have batted a lot faster. That's what you wanted me to say. But in situations like this, when you're struggling, everyone struggles. But like I said, I don't think I was batting badly. It's just that I was hitting the fielders and then trying to play the situation a bit more."
He added,
"Obviously, I wanted to bat a little bit deeper into the innings and face most of the spin threat in the middle. But I just didn't get going today. But yes, I'll take the blame. So that's what you want me to say."
Unlike the other West Indian batters, his strike rate throughout the tournament was on the lower side, even though he managed to score 217, including two half centuries. Last night he was batting on two runs in eight balls before hitting a six against Hardik Pandya. Not only that, but he was also seen struggling to rotate the strike rate.

India won the chase, with massive credit going to Sanju Samson, who stood tall from the first ball to the last. He was three runs short of a century, smashing 12 boundaries and 4 balls, with a strike rate of 194. Tilak Varma's 27 runs coming from 15 balls in the middle were crucial for the team, with Shivam Dube easing down the chase in the 19th over. Samson finished the case in the final over with a six and then a single.
They will face England in the second semifinal in Mumbai on March 5.
