Just hearing the name of Biryani makes the mouth water. Often people think that it is difficult to make, but with the right method and balanced spices, restaurant-like veg biryani can be prepared at home. Let us know its easy method.



  • 2 cups basmati rice (washed and soaked for 20 minutes)

  • 1 cup chopped carrots

  • 1 cup peas

  • 1 cup chopped beans

  • 1 chopped potato

  • 1 chopped onion (thin slices)

  • 1 chopped tomato

  • 2 green chillies

  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste

  • 1/2 cup curd

  • 2 tbsp oil or ghee

  • 1 bay leaf

  • 4-5 cloves

  • 2 green cardamoms

  • 1 small piece cinnamon

  • 1 tsp biryani masala

  • salt as per taste

  • Green Coriander and Mint Leaves


How to make Veg Biryani


Veg Biryani is a delicious dish which is very much liked. First of all, boil water in a big vessel. Add salt and a little oil to it. Now add soaked Basmati rice and cook till 70-80%. Take care that the rice does not melt completely. After cooking, filter the water and keep the rice aside.


Heat oil or ghee in a pan or heavy bottomed vessel. Add bay leaves, cloves, cardamom and cinnamon to it and fry it lightly. Now add chopped onion and cook until it turns golden. After this, add ginger-garlic paste and green chillies and fry till the aroma comes.

Now add tomatoes and cook until soft. Then add all the chopped vegetables and cook on medium flame for 5-7 minutes. Mix salt, biryani masala and curd and stir well. When the vegetables are half cooked, reduce the flame.


Now spread a layer of boiled rice over the prepared vegetables. Sprinkle green coriander and mint on top. If you want, you can also add some ghee. Cover the vessel tightly with a lid and let it simmer on low flame for 10-15 minutes.


When aroma starts coming, turn off the gas. After 5 minutes, mix the biryani gently. Your delicious veg biryani is ready. Serve hot veg biryani with raita, salad or papad. If desired, garnish with fried onions on top.
