New Delhi: Tata Motors says it has delivered 10,000 units of the Sierra in India. The SUV had been talked about for a long time before it finally reached showrooms. Now that the petrol and diesel versions are on sale, attention has shifted to the electric model, which is expected to arrive later with both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options.
For now, buyers can only choose the Sierra with internal combustion engines. The electric version is still awaited. Here is a clear look at what the current model offers in terms of engines, platform and safety.

Tata Sierra
The Tata Sierra is available with three 1.5-litre engine choices. There is a Kryojet diesel engine, a Hyperion TGDi turbo-petrol engine, and a Revotron naturally aspirated petrol unit. These are conventional petrol and diesel setups, not hybrid systems.
Depending on the variant, customers can choose between a manual or an automatic gearbox. Not every engine may get both options, but Tata is offering both transmission types in the overall line-up. The upcoming Sierra EV, which is yet to be launched, is expected to come with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations.

Tata Sierra interior
The 2025 Sierra is built on Tata’s new ARGOS platform. The name stands for All Terrain Ready Omni Energy Geometry Scalable. This structure has been designed in a way that it can support both petrol/diesel engines and electric powertrains in the future.
The SUV also introduces Tata’s TiDAL 2.0 electrical architecture in an ICE vehicle in India. It is based on Ethernet technology and can handle data speeds of up to 1 Gbps. Features include 5G connectivity, over-the-air software updates and a centralised computing system. Tata says the setup also includes cybersecurity protection and hybrid cloud storage support.
On the safety front, Tata states that two prototypes were crash tested to simulate real-world conditions. According to the company, the passenger cabin stayed intact, the doors could be opened after impact, and there was no fuel leakage. Six airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners are standard, while higher variants offer Level 2 ADAS with up to 22 driver assistance features.
