A product sold exclusively in Tesco is being recalled amid fears it could cause fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. Sacor is recalling Bastides Saucisson Sec because salmonella has been found in the product. The product is sold exclusively in Tesco stores.

The recall covers 200g packs with a best before date of March 4, 2026. Symptoms caused by Salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. If you are experiencing the symptoms, you should stay away from work, school or nursery until you have stopped having symptoms for at least 48 hours to avoid passing it on to others.

Sacor is recalling the product and has issued a recall notice to alert customers. The notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product.

A Food Standards Agency spokesman said: "If you have bought the product do not eat it. Instead, return it to your nearest Tesco store for a full refund. For more information email customercare@compleatfood.com."

Salmonella is a genus of rod-shaped bacteria that is one of the most common causes of food poisoning (salmonellosis) worldwide. While many people think of it simply as "the chicken thing," it's actually a pretty resilient group of microbes that can live in the intestinal tracts of humans and animals.

The bacteria are shed in faeces and then find their way into food or water. Common culprits include:

• Raw or undercooked meat: Especially poultry and beef.


• Eggs: The bacteria can sometimes be inside the egg before the shell even forms.


• Unwashed produce: If fruits or veggies are irrigated with contaminated water.


• Pet contact: Reptiles (turtles, lizards) and birds are notorious carriers.

If you ingest the bacteria, symptoms usually kick in between 6 hours and 6 days later. It’s generally a rough few days involving:

• Gastrointestinal distress: Diarrhoea (sometimes bloody), abdominal cramps, and nausea.


• Systemic issues: Fever, chills, and headache


• Duration: Most people recover within 4 to 7 days without antibiotics, though it certainly doesn't feel "quick" while it's happening.

While most healthy adults bounce back with rest and plenty of fluids, Salmonella can be dangerous for "YOPI" groups (Young children, Older adults, Pregnant women, and Immunocompromised individuals). In rare cases, the infection can enter the bloodstream, which requires immediate medical intervention.
