Bettiah:Shocking information has been found during the surveillance action on Assistant Engineer Roshan Kumar posted in the Education Department. After he was caught red-handed taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh, the surveillance team conducted an intensive search operation till late night at his rented residence in Bengali Colony. In the search that continued till around 1 am in the night, the team recovered Rs 42 lakh 500 in cash.

According to the information, the assistant engineer was arrested by the surveillance while taking a bribe of Rs 5 lakh. After this, the team took him to his residence, where during search under the bed and other places, huge amount of money, important documents and investment papers were found. Including Rs 42 lakh 500 recovered from the residence and Rs 5 lakh seized earlier, a total cash of Rs 47 lakh 500 has been taken into custody by the surveillance.

Commission was also taken from many other contractors

The assistant engineer, resident of Suryagarha, Lakhisarai, had gone to his home a week ago. There is a possibility that the amount recovered earlier had reached home. 42 lakh 500 rupees were recovered from his voice only this week as commission was taken from the contractors. Experts say that all the outstanding letters had to be paid before 31st March. In such a situation, the engineer was taking 10 percent commission for settling the bills of all the contractors. When the commission amount was being collected, he would go home to reach it.

There is a possibility of some other people also getting involved in this business of commission embezzlement. Although the monitoring team did not give any clear information in this regard, but sources have said that during interrogation, the Assistant Engineer told that the amount of 10 percent commission is not his alone. He used to give this amount to many other officials also. Some public representatives also had a share. After making the final payment of the schemes, the commission amount was divided.

After 42 lakh 500 rupees were recovered from the house of the murdered assistant engineer, it took about 2 hours for the surveillance team to count them, because it was already midnight and there was no possibility of finding the machine that dropped the notes. All the banks were also closed. In such a situation, the officers included in the monitoring team counted the notes. All the notes were in bundles of Rs 500. During the search, a handwritten paper was also found from the assistant engineer on which he had written how much amount had been taken from whom and how much was due to whom.
