Over the years there have been a number of D-list books brought to our shelves by A-list stars, and yet some of them have been able to fly under the radar.
It may surprise you to find out some of your favourite celebs have had some ultimate flops when it came to their ventures in the world of literature.
The very worst of literary crimes have been committed; it's hard to believe some of these are even real, but sadly, they are.
This World Book Daywe're here to remind you of the forgotten flops from some of the world's most famous faces, and we're thankful that they stuck to their day jobs ever since. Here is the ultimate list of cringeworthy reads, with some requiring you to not even read at all.
Selfish - Kim KardashianSome claimed Kim Kardashian's selfie book was a cutting-edge artistic statement and even an empowering act of feminism. Others couldn't help but cringe at the hundreds of pages filled with selfies and the occasional commentary.
Released in 2015, the book's intention was to provide a selection of never-before-seen photos of the superstar as she became one of the most recognised people in the world.
Some captions – well, most captions – don't add much context to the photos she took of herself. One states: "I love that we have these memories," while another reads: "I'm obsessed with contour."
Rebels: City of Indra - Kendall and Kylie Jenner Joining their big sister in the world of literature, or lack of, the two Jenner sisters released a young adult fiction novel back in 2014. It was during a time when the world was obsessed with sci-fi and dystopia, and The Hunger Games was all the rage, so being the smart-minded businesswomen they now are, the pair jumped on the trend.
The sci-fi book was set in a future, with issues of class divide, represented by two characters strongly based on the personalities of the sisters – Lex, an orphan, and Livia, a rich heiress. They eventually find out that they are long-lost twins – spoiler alert.
Of course, given their lack of writing endeavours or interest in literature prior to or after the book's release, it is assumed that the book was ghostwritten. At least Kim was able to write the photo captions herself.
This is one that's unfortunately hard to forget and often takes the crown for the ultimate celebrity vanity project, as Brooklyn Beckham revelled in his love for photography. It was the book that nobody asked for, and nobody bought.
Made up of the nepo-babies' photography, which includes out-of-focus pictures of animals, selfies, and pretty standard photographs with little-to-no artistic theme or flair that most photography books require.
Across 300 photos it was made with the hopes of showcasing a 'behind the scenes' of the Beckhams' life, at just 18 years old, and the internet lost its mind. One caption in particular stands out for its basic description, stating: "I like this picture because it’s a bit blurry, but you can tell what’s going on."
Swan - Naomi Campbell Trying her hand at writing, the world-renowned supermodel released a novel titled Swan back in 1994. It's set within the world of fashion and modelling, as a supermodel navigates a dark case of blackmail.
While appearing at the major book signing event in Harrods for its release, the model has remained pretty hush-hush on the matter ever since – and with good reason. The critics had nothing nice to say about her writing, and those who continue to stumble across the story have given it low ratings.
The overall rating on the reader's review site Goodreads is a mere 2.7, with just 27 reviews.
A Mother's Gift - Britney Spears Before she released her successful memoir, The Woman In Me, Britney Spears co-authored a novel, alongside her mother, about a fictional mother-daughter relationship – and it's hard to find anyone who has anything good to say about it.
The 2001 book follows a teenage girl from a small town with big dreams, which she can only achieve with the help of her dedicated mother. A story similar to that allegedly of Britney's own life, and yet many have predicted it was ghostwritten.
A Mother's Gift was not well received, and the reviews continue to sit pretty low, with an overall rating of 3.34 on Goodreads.
This Is Me - Katie PriceNobody knows the world of books quite like Katie Price, having written over 50 of them. From children's books to autobiographies, novels and lifestyle tips, the British reality TV icon has touched on about every topic there is to cover in her life.
Unfortunately for her, none of them are considered great entries to her discography, and one addition, This Is Me, was no exception to that. The 2024 book quickly fell to 1,400th place in the Amazon book charts after an initial success.
Some, however, have described it as her "most reflective" book yet, and it took her a lot of attempts to get there.
It’s Not About the Bike - Lance Armstrong When released in 2000, fans of the world-famous cyclist loved his book for its inspirational story about his cancer survival and fight to continue to ride.
However, when it was revealed in 2013 Armstrong had confessed to using performance-enhancing drugs, a lot of its content was considered to be untruthful.
The once successful book was soon considered by many to be a "sham". Upon rereading the book with this newfound information, fans considered it to be full of audacity, with a lot of ironic remarks considering his hard work was put down to drug use.
Ever since, the book has received regular low ratings, with a Goodreads review score of just 3.7.
