Davanagere: Police detained several leaders and activists of Madiga organisations who attempted to enforce a bandh in Davanagere on Friday while demanding internal reservation.

The organisations had called for a bandh on March 6. From early morning, some activists tried to stop buses that were operating in the city.

Police said several leaders who attempted to block buses and disrupt movement were taken into custody.

In some places, activists moving around the city on motorcycles tried to force shops to close, which led to arguments with shopkeepers.

Authorities detained hundreds of leaders and workers of the organisations for obstructing traffic and disturbing business activities.

Police said some activists left the protest site fearing arrest.

After the protesters were taken into custody, bus services and vehicle movement in the city resumed normally.
