A little town is home to the UK's 'best high street' and house prices are rising faster than anywhere else in the UK. Fromeis a small market town in Somerset with a population of just over 28,000.
It is located on the River Fromeat the eastern end of Mendip Hills near Bath. The town is also frequently included in 'best places to live', 'best weekend breaks, and 'coolest town' lists. Fromeis renowned for having some of the UK's best high streets, characterised by a high concentration of independent shops, historic architecture, and artisan markets. The top, most iconic spots are the cobbled Catherine Hill and the historic Cheap Street, featuring a unique, medieval water leat. With regular markets three times a week and an independent market monthly, the market square has been in use since Norman times. There are a number of arts venues and galleries such as the Black Swan, Rook Lane Arts and Silk Mill. Craftspeople like jewellers, blacksmiths and instrument makers also have lots of workshops.
The town has lots of restaurants, including the Bath Arms, the Full Moon Inn, Bistro Lotte and the Newt, as well as places to stay like hotels and bed and breakfasts.
The area surrounding Frome has lots of green spots such as Rodden Meadow, Victoria Park, Critchill Manor and Cranborne Chase Area of Natural Beauty.
Frome was one of Somerset's largest towns during the Industrial Revolution and was larger than Bath until 1650. It has a number of listed buildings and most of the centre is in a conservation area
The town has seen the highest property value growth over the past decade, with prices rising by an impressive 58.54%. In 2015, the typical house price in Frome was £205,000.
