The Indian Women's team experienced a major setback in the ongoing Test match against Australia Women at the W.A.C.A. Ground in Perth. The dismissal of Indian Women's batter Jemimah Rodrigues in her risky shot became the major point of discussion in the entire match. Jemimah Rodrigues attempted a risky scoop shot against Annabel Sutherland, but in the end, she lost her wicket in a very simple manner. This poor shot selection did not go unnoticed, as the former Australia coach, Justin Langer, disapproved of the shot selection while in commentary.

Jemimah Rodrigues' risky shot proves costly for India

The incident took place in the 7.6 over of India's second innings. Annabel Sutherland threw a back of length ball that pitched in the off-stump area. Instead of playing a safe shot, Jemimah decided to move across her stumps and attempt a scoop shot.

However, Jemimah’s plan was a complete failure. While executing the shot, the shooter lost her balance, resulting in her scoring a top edge. The ball went towards the leg gully area, where Beth Mooney caught the ball quite easily.

Rodrigues got out of the game after scoring 14 runs off 15 balls, including three boundary shots. However, Jemimah’s dismissal was quite frustrating for India, as they needed a safe partnership during that particular over.

Justin Langer unhappy with the choice of shot

The scene had immediate reactions from the commentary box. One such person, the former Australian opener, Justin Langer, expressed his discontent with the choice of shot played by Rodrigues.

Justin Langer said:

“She will rue that decision. You're playing Test cricket, you've got two and a bit days to bat.”

Justin's words reflected the frustrations many viewers felt. In Test cricket, the players have to show their patience and batting skills. The player did not have to play the scoop shot, which is normally played in T20 matches, at that time.

The scene showed the consequences of poor shot selection, which ended up being costly for the team.

Careless moment puts India under pressure

Rodrigues was looking comfortable before the dismissal. She had already scored three good boundaries. She was also slowly building a partnership with Pratika Rawal.

The decision to play an attacking scoop shot brought about a complete transformation of the situation. The wicket was a big advantage for Australia in the lights, but it was not helpful for India in gaining momentum.

Australia's players celebrated with great fervor at that moment as they felt they had taken great control of the match.
