Singapore Red Cross is offering 20% discounts for Haidilao hotpot to people donating blood in the city-state this month.

Those dining at Haidilao on the same day they donate blood only need to show staff their bandaged arm, according to a post on the Blood Buddy Instagram page, an initiative by the Singapore Red Cross aimed at engaging younger donors.

Those who visit on another day must present proof through the DonateBlood app that they have donated blood within March, the post said.

Groups of two to four diners can also purchase a limited hotpot set featuring iron-rich items priced at S$66.60 and receive limited-edition stickers. Diners must also check in with a specific hashtag to qualify.

The promotion can be used at all Haidilao outlets in the city-state from Mondays to Fridays until March 31, with the limited set available only from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is a limit of one 20% discount per donor per bill and one set redemption per transaction.

Singapore Red Cross had earlier launched a giveaway of free Pop Mart blind boxes for donors in late October last year.

Such campaigns come as the share of young blood donors in Singapore has been declining, The Straits Times reported.

Data released in January by the Health Sciences Authority showed there were more than 9,600 youth donors last year, accounting for about 12% of the donor pool, down from 28% in 2015.

Between 2014 and 2024, the number of youth blood donors nearly halved from 20,400 to 10,800, according to AsiaOne.
