Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday extended greetings on International Women’s Day, praising the contributions of women across the country and highlighting the role of “Nari Shakti” in driving India’s development.
In a series of posts on X, the Prime Minister said women are playing a transformative role in every sector and are central to the country’s progress and aspirations for a developed India.
“On International Women’s Day, I extend my greetings to all our Nari Shakti,” Modi wrote. “Across every field, women are shaping India’s progress with determination, creativity and unmatched zeal. Their achievements inspire our nation and strengthen our collective resolve to build a Viksit Bharat.”
Highlighting the government’s focus on women’s empowerment, Modi said several initiatives launched over the past decade have been aimed at expanding opportunities and enabling women to realise their full potential.
“Empowerment of women is at the core of our various schemes and initiatives,” he said. “We remain committed to creating opportunities that enable every woman to realise her full potential and contribute to India’s journey of development.”
In another post, the Prime Minister said the accomplishments of women continue to shape the nation’s future. “The achievements of India’s Nari Shakti are a source of pride and a powerful reminder of their transformative role in nation-building,” he wrote. “As India progresses further, the aspirations and contributions of women will continue to guide our collective journey towards a strong and prosperous nation.”
Sharing a video highlighting stories of women at the grassroots level, Modi said it offered a glimpse of how their lives have transformed over the past decade. He shared the clip with the hashtag #NayeBharatKiNariShakti.
In recent years, the central government has highlighted several programmes aimed at women’s empowerment, focusing on areas such as financial inclusion, entrepreneurship, health, education and sanitation. It has also emphasised increasing women’s participation in sectors including science, technology, governance and the armed forces.
Observed globally on March 8 each year, International Women’s Day celebrates the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women while also calling for accelerated efforts toward gender equality and expanded opportunities worldwide. Leaders across the political spectrum in India marked the occasion with messages recognising women’s contributions and reiterating commitments to empowerment and equal opportunity.
