The upcoming white-ball series between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka, originally scheduled to be held in the UAE from March 13, is likely to be postponed indefinitely.

The decision comes amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

Although neither the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) nor Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has officially confirmed this development, ESPNcricinfo understands that both boards are on board with postponing the series due to regional unrest.

Alternative venues being sought for the series

While discussions are still underway to find alternative venues for the series, it is likely to be deferred due to logistical challenges.

The bilateral series was supposed to feature six white-ball matches, starting with three T20Is in Sharjah on March 13, 15, and 17.

The remaining three ODIs were scheduled for Dubai on March 20, 22, and 25.

The ongoing conflict in West Asia has also affected other cricket events. Last week, six matches of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 in Nepal were postponed due to the unrest.

Furthermore, travel plans for teams participating in the recently concluded Men's T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka were disrupted as airspaces remain closed or restricted across West Asia.
