Ahmedabad, March 9. India’s history-making T20 World Cup win got cricket great Mahendra Singh Dhoni back active on social media after almost two years and he took the opportunity to tell head coach Gautam Gambhir how good a smile looks on his serious face. Dhoni’s last post on Instagram was in 2024. “History made in Ahmedabad, huge congratulations to the team and support staff and all the fans of the Indian cricket team around the world. Great to see you all playing,” he posted after watching the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium here.
In the final, India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs and won the title for the third time and became the first team to do so. Referring to the chief coach’s mostly serious manner, he jokingly said, “Coach Saheb, your smile looks very nice. The spirit with the smile is wonderful, very well done. Have fun guys…It is better if I don’t write anything about Bumrah. Champion bowler.” On Sunday night, the Indian team captained by Suryakumar Yadav gave a brilliant all-round performance.
Batting after losing the toss, top-order batsmen Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma scored half-centuries to take India to a huge score of 255 runs for five wickets. After this, Bumrah took four wickets for 15 runs while Akshar Patel also took three wickets to help India get an easy victory. Dhoni is India’s first T20 World Cup winning captain. Under his leadership, India won the first tournament in 2007. After this, the team captained by Rohit Sharma won the second title in 2024. Rohit was also present in the stadium for the final on Sunday.
