New Delhi: Champions League’s round of 16 matches begins on Tuesday with a blockbuster rematch between Real Madrid and Manchester City while Paris Saint-Germain replay Chelsea.

Madid will host City for the second time this year and the fifth consecutive time in the tournament’s knockout stages, with the winner of the clash going on to list the trophy in three of those editions.

Galatasaray and Newcastle are on this stage of the competition after a long time while Atalanta host Bayern Munich in their first apperance in the last 16 stage in five years.

Norway’s Bodø/Glimt enterain Sporting Lisbon after becoming the country’s first team to advance beyond the group stage in 29 years, having beaten Man City and Inter Milan by 3-1 margins earlier in the competition.

Mbappe doubtful

City beat Madrid 2-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in December through Erling Haaland’s penalty Kylian Mbappe was injured. He remains doubtful again with a strain injury in his left knee.

“It’s under control, every day he’s better. Right now, it’s all good news,” Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa had said last week.

As only six days divide the first leg and the return game in Manchester, it remains to be seen if Madrid risk Mbappe.

Chelsea had beaten PSG 3-0 eight months ago in the Club Worl Cup. Since then Chelsea have replaced manager Enzo Maresca with Liam Rosenior.

Tootenham travel to Atletico Madrid while Arsenal face Bayer Leverkusen.

It is the first time that Tottenham will face Atletico since their 5-1 win in the final of the 1963 European Cup-Winners’ Cup.

Atletico have won only one of their last 10 UEFA competition matches against English opponents.
