What is blood pressure?
Blood pressure is the pressure with which the heart pumps blood through the arteries in the body. It is measured in two parts, systolic (upper) and diastolic (lower) pressure. Generally 120/80 mmHg is considered normal BP, but this may vary slightly with age.
At what age is BP considered normal?
18 to 25 years
At this age the body normally remains quite active. According to doctors, BP between 110/70 to 120/80 mmHg is considered normal in this age group.
26 to 35 years
Work pressure and stress starts increasing at this age. During this period, blood pressure between 115/75 to 125/85 mmHg can be considered normal.
36 to 45 years
The impact of lifestyle on health starts becoming visible in middle age. In this age group, BP around 120/80 to 130/90 mmHg is considered normal, however, if it is more than this, it is necessary to consult a doctor.
46 to 60 years
There is a possibility of increase in blood pressure in many people at this age. Generally a level of 130/85 to 140/90 mmHg is considered acceptable, but exceeding this level requires caution.
over 60 years
With increasing age, the elasticity of the arteries may decrease, due to which BP may increase slightly. At this age, BP around 130/90 to 145/90 mmHg can be considered normal, but regular checkups are very important.
Ways to control BP
According to health experts, to keep blood pressure balanced, it is important to take a balanced diet, limit salt intake, do regular exercise and stay away from stress. Apart from this, staying away from smoking and alcohol also helps in controlling BP.
