Kylian Mbappe has flown to France in a bid to address an ongoing knee problem after reportedly losing confidence in Real Madrid's medical staff. The France striker sprained his knee in December last year, and has been playing through discomfort ever since.
While his goal output hasn't dropped, Mbappe's patience is now wearing thin, with the injury worsening in recent weeks. As a result, the 27-year-old has now turned to a French knee specialist for further treatment, having grown increasingly frustrated with his recovery under the supervision of Real Madrid's in-house doctors.
According to French outlet L'Equipe, Mbappe "doesn't trust" the Los Blancos medics because they "haven't found the right treatment" for his injury. It's understood he "doesn't want to take anymore risks," particularly with the World Cup right around the corner.
Mbappe also wants to be fully fit for the 2025/26 run-in, with Real Madrid chasing down Barcelona in La Liga and pushing to reach the latter stages of the Champions League. He has missed Real's last three games due to injury and is now in a race against time to feature in the upcoming Champions League clash with Manchester City.

Reports suggest this has sparked a diplomatic headache at the Bernabeu. Real Madrid officials were keen for Mbappe to be available for both legs against City, but his decision to fly to France has complicated those plans.
It's worth noting, however, that Real Madrid's medical staff may not bear all the responsibility for Mbappe's predicament. The forward reportedly insisted on playing after picking up the injury in a bid to break the record for most goals scored in a calendar year in the club's history.
He ended up equalling the tally of 59, set by Cristiano Ronaldo in 2013. It's also understood that his coaches pushed for him to play, prioritising Real Madrid's form over the player's full fitness.
Despite his injury problems, Mbappe has continued scoring prolifically, netting 23 goals in 23 league games and 38 in all competitions - just six shy of last season's total.
It comes following news that Mbappe rejected Real Madrid's offer of a brand new BMW i7, having recently passed his driving test. Instead, the 2018 World Cup-winner opted for a somewhat more modest iX3 as his BMW of choice.
In 2022, Real secured a sponsorship deal with BMW, meaning players must drive models manufactured by the German carmaker to the training ground and other club functions.
Trent Alexander-Arnold was forced to ditch his preferred £130,000 Range Rover P530 for club visits due to sponsorship restrictions, with the former Liverpool star banned from driving the vehicle to training and club events.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, Mbappe is mindful of tackling more than he can manage with his first car, having only just become road legal.
