New Delhi: India’s top doubles player Yuki Bhambri and his partner Goran Goransson stormed into the quarterfinals of the men’s doubles event at the Indian Wells Masters on Wednesday. They proceeded in the event on back of a straight-set victory over the pair of Sander Arends and Jiri Lehecka.
The pair produced a solid performance to beat Arends and Lehecka 6-4, 6-4 in the pre quarterfinal clash that lasted for one hour and 14 minutes. Luckily, the duo did not face any break point in the match and broke their rivals twice in the game.
The Indo-Swedish pair maintained control through most part of the match, securing a crucial break in each set to win the contest in straight sets. Going ahead in the tournament, Bhambri and Goransson will next take on Alexander Erler of Austria and Andrea Vavassori from Italy in the last-eight stage of the prestigious ATP Masters 1000 tournament.

Meanwhile Bhambri, who is India’s top-ranked doubles player, is the only Indian tennis player featuring in the first Master series event of the 2026 season. In some other results of the day, four-time major champion Jannik Sinner edged talented Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca 7-6, 7-6 in a scintillating Stadium Court clash.
Arthur Fils’s injury comeback gathered pace as the Frenchman upset ninth-ranked Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-3, 7-6 to book a quarterfinal meeting with fourth-ranked Alexander Zverev while Germany’s Zverev downed American Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 6-4.
