Struggling Tottenham Hotspur interim boss Igor Tudor appears to be safe from the sack before this weekend. Spurs have announced he will face the media at a press conference on Friday, ahead of their daunting away fixture at Liverpool.
Tudor, 47, suffered a new low when he witnessed his team be dismantled 5-2 in the first-leg of their Champions League round of 16 clash by Atletico Madrid. His bold call to drop goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and field 22-year-old Antonin Kinsky proved disastrous within 15 minutes. The inexperienced goalkeeper bore responsibility for two of Atletico's three early goals, before being ignominiously substituted. Few questioned the choice to remove the Czech, but Tudor's failure to acknowledge the distraught Kinsky left former Spurs goalkeeper Joe Hart incensed.
With Tudor suffering the poorest start of any Tottenham manager on record, many have predicted the Croatian will be dismissed before the trip to Anfield.
His position seems secure, for the time being, as Tudor's attendance at his press conference on Friday was announced by the club. This development virtually confirms Tudor will occupy the dugout on the red side of Merseyside.
Having suffered defeat in all four of his fixtures thus far, Tudor's position will undoubtedly come under scrutiny if the north Londoners endure a heavy loss at Liverpool. Tottenham are treading a precarious path in the Premier League as they sit just one point above 18th-placed West Ham United.
The Hammers welcome Manchester City at the weekend, whilst 17th-placed Nottingham Forest take on Fulham at the City Ground. Should both the Hammers and Forest emerge victorious, and Tottenham taste defeat, Tudor's team will plunge into the relegation zone.
A pivotal moment occurred at the Wanda Metropolitano when he opted to withdraw Kinsky after a mere 15 minutes. As the goalkeeper departed the pitch, Tudor failed to acknowledge him, but Conor Gallagher, Joao Palhinha and Dominic Solanke, who began the match amongst the substitutes, pursued him down the tunnel, recognising the potentially devastating impact his disastrous appearance might have.

There are also mounting indications he is losing the backing of the Tottenham squad. Football London understands numerous Spurs stars believe he has been overly assertive and appeared disrespectful since taking charge.

The fact Tudor offered no words of reassurance on the pitch was noted amongst the Spurs players. In his post-match interview, he also seemed hesitant to discuss Kinsky, though he did provide a modest display of support to the keeper during his press conference.
Tudor stated: "Unfortunately, it happened in this big game, these mistakes. He was sorry. The team is with him, me too. I was speaking with him. He understands the moment, he understands why he goes out. As I said, he's a very good goalkeeper. We are with him, we are all together. It's never about one player. It's happened. It's the Champions League again. We paid [for] this start of the game."
