Hyderabad: Amid the ongoing cooking gas crisis, several five-star hotels have begun cooking on induction stoves and will only host pre-booked weddings and receptions.

A spokesperson for a five-star hotel explained that they are still hosting foreign guests and those from other states. The spokesperson further stated they currently have cylinders enough for only one or two days and that if agencies do not supply them, they will only be able to provide food to the guests.

Change of menus:

In view of the gas shortage, some star hotels have made changes to their menus. Grilled chicken, mutton and kebabs, which require a lot of fuel, have been removed from the menu.

Biryani made on wood fire:

At Shah Ghouse restaurant in Lakdikapul, Hyderabad, Biryani is now being made on a wood stove, MD Mohammed Rabbani said.

“Across all our outlets, we used to get 300 cylinders everyday. Now we can’t manage even half of that. We started cooking Biryani on wood fire and Haleem is anyway prepared on wood fire.”

Paradise Food Court MD Abhik Mitra said that they are cooking on electric stoves, where necessary in Paradise restaurants in the Greater Hyderabad area. “We are exploring alternative cooking mechanisms including PNG to make sure our signature dishes are available.”

IT Corridor Hostel Association demands LPG gas supply:

The Telangana State IT Corridor Hostel Association has demanded that the supply of commercial gas cylinders be started immediately to private PG hostels where a large number of IT employees live.

Association President Amarnath Reddy, General Secretary Karunakar, Treasurer Mahidhar said at a press conference that 10 lakh people staying in 11,000 hostels in Hyderabad are facing difficulties due to the suspension of the supply of commercial cylinders.

Upscale gated communities feel the heat:

Residents of gated communities in the IT corridor, who rely solely on Piped Natural Gas (PNG) supplies, have started feeling the heat of the ongoing crisis.

Resident welfare associations are scrambling to stock up on cylinders and are huddling around to discuss the challenge at hand. Several of them have said that they are in regular touch with the distributors, enquiring about cooking gas supply.
