New Delhi: India put in all their efforts in the entire T20 World Cup 2026 to lift the trophy for a record third time. The Men in Blue beat Kiwis by 96 runs in the grand finale in Ahmedabad last Sunday to bag their second consecutive title, becoming the first team to do so and also becoming the first side to win it on their home soil.

Though India offered their blood and sweat to clinch the title in style but there was a bit of good luck as well which supported them in their cause. The Indian team had grabbed headlines for changing their hotel at the last-minute and switching to a new one ahead of the finale. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav has shed light on what was the reason behind that move.

Suryakumar reveals reason for hotel change

In an interaction with the India Express, Suryakumar revealed that they were on the flight to the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai for the semifinal when someone suggested that they should try a hotel change. Many teams have done it and they didn’t want to leave anything on the table that could take them closer to their goal which made them try this.

Ahead of the semi-final clash against England as well, the squad delayed its practice session in Mumbai as there was lunar eclipse, taking all the superstitions into consideration. The skipper of the winning team also spoke on the jinx of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where they had lost 2023 World Cup final against Australia there, and their only defeat in the 2026 T20 World Cup against South Africa, also came at the same venue.

‘People were saying India don’t win in Ahmedabad and this came after the 2023 final. But look at it now. We’ve won there, in that same stadium. Now we know there’s no problem with the stadium,’ Yadav said.
