Primark has confirmed that all of its UK stores will shut for a day in April. The retailer, which opened its first store in Britain in 1974, has around 190 shops across the nation, including 160 in England.
Bosses have confirmed that every store in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will close on Easter Sunday (April 5). A spokesperson for the popular clothing retailer added that some stores may be operating different hours from normal over the upcoming Easter weekend. Primark shoppers are advised to check the opening times of their local branch before visiting.
As reported by the Mirror, a Primark spokesperson said: "Primark stores across the UK will be open across the Easter weekend, however on Easter Sunday only stores in Scotland will be open and all stores in England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be closed. Stores may also be operating different hours to normal, so we recommend that customers check our website for their local store opening times before visiting to avoid disappointment."
Staff at shops across the country will be given a well-deserved break on April 5 as part of the Sunday Trading Act 1994. The act means that all shops over 280 square metres in size are legally obliged to close on Easter Sunday.
However, smaller stores, as well as airport and railway station outlets, service stations and registered pharmacies can remain open. Meanwhile, shops in Scotland are not restricted by the rules meaning they can also stay open.

As well as Primark, Waitrose has also confirmed that most of its branches will be closed for 24 hours on Easter Sunday. A spokesperson said that over 350 stores will close to give staff a break.
Likewise, 560 Home Bargains branches will also shut this Easter Sunday. The retailer, which employs around 28,000 staff, will be open on Good Friday with reduced hours from 9am until 7pm.
A Home Bargains spokesperson confirmed that all 70 stores in Scotland will remain open as usual on Easter Sunday while the rest of the shops across the UK will shut. As there are 630 shops nationwide, this means 560 branches will be closed on the day.
