Udupi: A car driver allegedly assaulted a scooter rider and his wife after hitting their vehicle near Chittaranjan Circle in the city, instead of helping them after the accident.

According to reports, the car, which was coming at high speed, collided with the scooter. Due to the impact, the scooter rider and his wife fell onto the road and sustained injuries.

Instead of assisting the injured couple, the driver reportedly became angry and attacked the scooter rider.

When the rider’s wife attempted to record the incident on video, the driver allegedly assaulted her as well and tried to flee the spot in his car.

However, the injured woman stood in front of the car and resisted his attempt to escape, preventing the driver from leaving the scene.

Members of the public who gathered at the spot confronted the driver. Soon after, officials from the city police station arrived and took the driver into custody and brought him to the police station.

No case had been registered in connection with the incident at the time of reporting.
