Carlos Alcaraz has admitted he struggles with the style of Cameron Norrie after beating the Briton in the Indian Wells semi-final on Thursday. The World number one advanced with a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the BNP Paribas Open.
The Spaniard won the first set with confidence, before Norrie raced into a 2-0 lead in the second. Alcaraz responded by winning four straight games and completed the win after one hour and 33 minutes.
The victory sees Alcaraz earn revenge on Norrie after he beat him last November in Paris. After reaching his fifth consecutive Indian Wells semi-final, the top seed revealed how he struggles with facing Norrie.
"I struggle a lot with his style," he said on-court. "Every time I play against him it's always really tough for me. It's a little bit confusing with his style, his [heavy] topspin forehand, super high.
"And then the backhand, really flat and really low. Sometimes it's tricky to play against him. I'm finding the right shot. I played well. I played solid. I played aggressive when I could. I'm happy to play this level."
"Tennis is about choosing the right shot in about half a second," he added. "Sometimes I just miss the shot because I didn't choose the right one. In my mind, I have like seven, five options, sometimes it's tricky for me to pick the right one."
The win means Alcaraz is the third man to reach five straight semi-finals at the Indian Wells, alongside Rafael Nadal (2006-13) and Novak Djokovic (2011-16). He will face Daniil Medvedev in the semi-finals, looking to improve his 6-2 record in the Lexus ATP Head2Head series.
Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner are in the other semi-final. The former beat Frenchman Arthur Fils in the last round, while comfortably eased past Learner Tien of Italy.
