Virgin River is one of the most sought-after series on Netflix, providing an emotional look at small-town love, family connections, and life in the community through the loving people of Virgin River. Fans look forward to Season 8, which is expected to deliver even more emotion, romance, selflessness, new beginnings, and daily drama narrative thrills, telling the emotional twists and family milestones from Season 7, which premiered in March 2026. As Netflix’s longest-running live-action scripted series, Virgin River will also have a four-month time jump between seasons, with returning stars Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson to reprise their roles as Mel and Jack. The show will see various cast changes, including the exits of performers Marco Grazzini and Lauren Hammersley.
An official release date hasn’t yet been disclosed by Netflix for Season 8.
The last Season 7 was launched on March 12, 2026and historically, each subsequent season has been released following its previous season annually (with minor variance).
Per reports from early in 2026, filming for Season 8 is expected to begin around April 22, 2026with completion in August 2026. Production typically requires multiple months for post-production purposes, which means there’s a likelihood the season will premiere early to mid-2027which would likely fall between April/March and approximately July/June of 2027. Some sources have mentioned the possibility of its release during the first quarter of 2027; however, no definitive timelines can yet be established. Expect to see an announcement regarding release dates as production nears completion.
The new season will contain 10 episodesthe same as all recent seasons.
Most of the actors are anticipated to be back, but some well-known names will not return following season 7, including:
-The following regulars are set to return: Alexandra Breckenridge (Mel Monroe), Martin Henderson (Jack Sheridan), Annette O’Toole (Hope), Tim Matheson (Doc), Ben Hollingsworth (Brady), Zibby Allen (Brie), Colin Lawrence (Preacher), Kai Bradbury (Denny), Moths McClure (Kaia), and Sarah Dugdale (Lizzie).
– Regular recurring cast members are likely to return as well, including Cody Kearsley (Clay) and Austin Nichols (Eli – the pediatric surgeon who is involved in Mel’s storyline).
-Unfortunately for Marco Grazzini (Mike Valenzuela) and Lauren Hammersley (Charmaine Roberts), neither will return for season 8. However, according to showrunner Patrick Sean Smiththese departures allow the story to evolve, so there is potential that if the timing is right, these two could come back in future iterations of the show. Likewise, other minor or guest recurring roles from season 7 (for example, Sara Canning as Victoria) will not continue into the next season as well.
Season 8 will see a further exploration of Mel’s history, with Eli taking on a larger role (with some jealousy issues on Jack’s side, but not quite to the extent of being in a love triangle). In addition, the relationship between Muriel and Mel’s biological father, Everett, is going to be a huge surprise.
Specific plot details remain limited and spoiler-light to avoid ruining Season 7’s ending, but here’s what’s known from showrunner interviews:
The series continues to draw from Robyn Carr’s book series, blending romance, drama, and small-town charm. Since Season 7 just premiered, more details (like an official synopsis or trailer) will likely emerge in late 2026 or early 2027.
