An American in the UK has expressed her concern about an element of driving on British roads, applauding Brits for clearly knowing what they're doing when they get into their cars. If you've ever driven on a long, winding country road, whether you've been a driver or a passenger, then you'll know that sometimes, things can get hairy.

From tight turns to confident motorists actually driving at the national speed limit because they know the roads like the back of their hand, and even warnings about lesser-seen animalscrossing, there are so many different things to contend with.

And as an Americanis used to highways, freeways, interstates and expressways, country roads can certainly be jarring. It's not the first time someone had raised the issue either.

That's why @yorkshireyank, a "Midwest Yank in the UK," felt like she had to make a TikTok video complaining about some of the roads that she'd been on lately.

She wrote: "White-knuckle roads in the UK… because apparently, 'just wide enough for a Mini' is considered a full-size lane.

"You’re gripping the wheel like it owes you money, dodging potholes, hedgehogs, and the occasional confused sheep all while praying the oncoming car is feeling polite today".

Some footage that she took included cars coming within "inches" of hers, and pictures of her pulling faces as she was cringing, saying: "Like this face will make the road bigger".

She also claimed that she was "pretty sure" she saw an "otter crossing sign," which may well happen on the country roads. She reckoned that she saw a sheep, also, which isn't beyond the realms of imagination! But then she said it was just another car coming extremely close.

She added: "Bless the UK, the drivers actually know what they're doing!" Of course, not all roads are like this. The UK also has motorways, which are high-speed, dual-carriageway roads designed for fast, long-distance traffic.

They also tend to have much wider lanes than country roads, which can be tough to navigate - especially when you're new to the area or not used to them.

In the comments of the video, someone pointed out this wasn't even the worst road she'd ever seen. She wrote: "That’s actually pretty wide compared with some roads".

A second said: "Don't know why you're worrying, that's wide. It's not a single track road, then you'd worry".

A single-track road is a narrow, two-way road wide enough for only one vehicle, featuring intermittent passing places to allow oncoming traffic to go by. Common in rural, mountainous, or coastal areas, these roads require drivers to use passing places to pull over or allow others to pass safely.

"You could get a bus through there," a third joked, saying that where they live, this road would be classed as "a motorway".
