Saina Nehwal, an Olympic medalist, is optimistic about the future of pickleball in India as the sport gains traction nationwide. The former world number one in badminton serves as the brand ambassador for the inaugural CXO Pickleball League, initiated by RJ Anmol. This league merges business, fitness, and networking opportunities for corporate leaders and is set to expand into major cities like Mumbai, New Delhi, and Bengaluru.

Saina's Connection to Sports After Retirement

During the CXO Pickleball League event in New Delhi, Nehwal expressed her delight in remaining involved in sports following her retirement from badminton in January. She shared, "I have retired. Last year, I discussed with Anmol about launching a Pickleball League. I am thrilled to re-engage with a sport. The CXO Pickleball League has been successful, especially in Mumbai, and I am confident it will thrive in Delhi as well. Many players are eager to participate, and I enjoy watching the matches. Pickleball is rapidly gaining popularity in India, and this league will provide competitive opportunities for those interested."

The Surge of Pickleball in India

The sport has seen significant growth in India, particularly post-COVID-19, with numerous leagues emerging across the country. Nehwal noted, "Many individuals are approaching it competitively. The proliferation of leagues will encourage year-round activity and health awareness. For those aspiring to be champions, this will enhance their fitness and dietary habits."

Nehwal's Role as Brand Ambassador

The CXO Pickleball League, established by RJ Anmol, stands out as a premier pickleball league in India. Nehwal expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, "I had previously collaborated with Anmol on a podcast, which led to our friendship. He envisioned starting a league and believed my background as a sportsperson would resonate well with Pickleball, prompting him to approach me for this role."

Political Aspirations Clarified

Nehwal also addressed rumors regarding her potential political career, clarifying that she does not intend to engage in active politics soon. She remarked, "I have been associated with the BJP since 2020, participating in events focused on women's empowerment and sports. However, I have not taken on an active political role. My priority is to remain connected to sports and promote it in India. I will consider politics if it aligns with my destiny in the future."
