Kimi Antonelli became only the second teenager ever to win a Formula 1 Grand Prix with a mature drive from pole to see off George Russell. And there was also joy for Lewis Hamilton in Shanghai as, at the 26th attempt, he finally secured his first podium finish as a Ferrari driver after a protracted and very entertaining duel with team-mate Charles Leclerc.

But the day belonged to Antonelli who built on becoming the first ever teenager to qualify on pole for an F1 Grand Prix on Saturday by converting it into victory - despite a scary late incident which saw him fly off track with three laps to go, before recovering in time to ensure team-mate Russell was not going to be a threat.

Max Verstappen is the only driver who has won a Grand Prix at a younger age, having done so as an 18-year-old a decade ago. But what will mean the most to Antonelli was that he did this in a straight fight on track with Russell, providing evidence that the Brit may not have this title race all his own way this year.

They two Silver Arrows racers were joined on the podium by a former one as Hamilton completed the top three, finally taking to a podium in Ferrari overalls for the first time. That came after a spectacular duel with team-mate Leclerc which went on for much of the middle of the Grand Prix.

But the seven-time world champion got the job done to secure his 203rd podium finish in F1 and the first since the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix, back when he was still driving for Mercedes. There was also a superb result for another Brit in Oliver Bearman, who crossed the line fifth to continue an excellent start to the new season for Haas.

There were double points claimed by Alpine as Pierre Gasly impressed in sixth while Franco Colapinto finished 10th to finally end his long wait for a first score with the Enstone team. But it was a terrible day for McLaren who had to pull both their cars out before the Grand Prix even began, while Max Verstappen had to retire due to a problem on his Red Bull.
