When you're packing to go away, there are a few rules you need to follow, and Ryanair wants passengers to know a certain item needs to stay out of their hand luggage. The prospect of travel often seems stressful, but you may be able to make it a little easier by knowing a few air travel rules.

To ensure you have a smooth airport experience, and to reduce the risk of delays at security, it's best to check your bags are packed correctly. Therefore, you should pay attention to where you're packing certain items, as some things should never be placed in hand luggage.

It's not the onlyRyanair tip to be shared recently either. A few months ago, people were also advised to be careful when booking seats on a plane.

An important guideline was recently drawn attention to on Reddit, when a passenger asked: "Are nail scissors and razors really not allowed in carry-on airplane luggage?

"This seems very inconvenient as these are kind of basic hygienic items. Is this just formally written, or do they really take those away? Is there some trick so I don't have to buy them at my destination?"

The question quickly got a lot of people talking. One person said: "Clippers should be fine, scissors are usually a no."

Another added: "Nail scissors and razors are fine in most places. Scissors are usually fine depending on blade length, and depending on where you are and who is checking that particular day."

A third replied: "Not allowed in Türkiye. Guy at the walk-through made me toss my manicure scissors in the trash. Keep it in your checked luggage."

Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: "Nail scissors, I don't know. For how long are you going, do you really need it?

"If it's cheap enough, just bring it. If they confiscate it, just get a new one at the destination. It can't be that expensive."

Little you may know, there are some rules you need to follow when travelling with scissors. Ryanair outlines specific advice on the website.

What does Ryanair say?

The website states: "The following items must not be carried on board, but may be carried as part of your checked baggage. Objects with a sharp point or sharp edge.

"Objects with a sharp point or sharp edge capable of being used to cause serious injury, including scissors with blades of more than 6cm, as measured from the fulcrum." It also lists other items that aren't permitted in carry-on luggage.

While you can carry scissors on planes, the blades need to be shorter than 6cm to be placed in carry-on luggage. Small scissors, such as sewing or embroidery scissors, are generally allowed, while larger, sharper options should be packed in checked luggage.

This is because they are considered dangerous items. When carrying them, it's best to store them in a protective sheath or securely wrap them to prevent injury.

It's worth noting that rules can differ between airlines, so it's always best to check before you travel. Otherwise you could face unwanted delays at security.
