The government has made some changes in the PAN card application process, after which it will not be possible to make PAN card only with the help of Aadhar card.

According to the information, to get a PAN card from April 1, 2026, along with Aadhaar, an additional document related to the date of birth will also have to be provided. In such a situation, if you have not been able to get PAN card made yet, it will be easier to get it made by 31st March.

It is easy to make PAN card till 31st March

At present, while applying for a new PAN card, the process can be completed through e-KYC only with the help of Aadhar card. There is no need to provide separate documents related to date of birth. But this rule will change from April 1. After this, to get a PAN card, it will be mandatory to provide a separate document confirming the date of birth.

Information about this change has been shared by CSCeGov, an organization associated with the Common Service Center, on the social media platform X. The post states that old application forms will not be accepted from April 1.

Why are PAN card rules being changed?

Experts say that PAN card is an important document of financial identity. It is required for opening bank accounts, filing income tax returns, making investments and many government services. For this reason, the government wants to make the PAN card application process more reliable. Making documents related to date of birth mandatory can reduce the possibility of getting a card made by giving wrong information.

These documents will be required to make PAN card from April 1

After the implementation of the new system, it will be necessary to provide documents related to date of birth along with the PAN card application. These may include:

• birth certificate
• voter id card
• 10th mark sheet or certificate
• driving license
• Affidavit certified by Magistrate
• Passport

This means that now the facility of making PAN card only on the basis of Aadhar card may end.

How to apply for PAN card online

If you want to make a PAN card now, then it can be done easily online also. The process is like this:

1. First of all go to the official website of NSDL.
2. Go to the Apply Online tab on the website.
3. Here select New PAN – Indian Citizen (Form 49A).
4. Select Individual in the category.
5. Enter your name, date of birth, email ID and mobile number.
6. Fill the captcha and submit the form. After this you will get a Token Number.
7. Verify with OTP through Aadhar card.
8. After this fill the father's name, address and other important information.
9. Deposit PAN card fees online.
10. Finally, after completing the OTP authentication with Aadhaar, your application will be submitted.

If the e-KYC option is selected, the address entered in Aadhaar is automatically added to the form.

Apply quickly, the process may increase later

Changes in rules related to financial documents are usually made to increase transparency and security. But this may make the application process a little longer. In such a situation, if you do not have a PAN card yet, then it may be easier to apply before March 31, because at present this work is being completed only with the Aadhar card.
