New Delhi, March 19, 2026: Sunrisers Hyderabad has taken a big decision before the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). The team has appointed young batsman Ishan Kishan, who played a key role in India’s recent T20 World Cup win, as captain. The franchise had announced that he would replace Pat Cummins as captain.

However, this decision is not for the entire season. Pat Cummins will miss the first few matches of the season due to injury. Ishaan will lead the team until he returns.

Abhishek Sharma became the vice-captain

Abhishek Sharma has been appointed as the vice-captain. The franchise wrote on its Instagram account on Wednesday, “Pete Cummins is recovering from injury and hence will not be able to play in the initial matches of the season. Till he recovers, Ishan Kishan will lead the team and Abhishek Sharma will be the vice-captain.”

In this season, Isha made Jharkhand win the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title. He played strongly throughout the season and with this performance he returned to Team India. Ishaan joined Hyderabad only last year and has created a lot of buzz with his explosive batting. Once again all eyes will be on him.

Hyderabad wants to get its second title. He won his first title in 2016 under the captaincy of David Warner. In 2024, under the captaincy of Pat Cummins, they reached the final but lost against Kolkata Knight Riders. Hyderabad team has performed exceptionally well under the captaincy of Cummins.
