A major high street brand has reopened its online stores after plunging into administration and closing all high street shops. Malin + Goetz, which filed for administration in the UK in January, announced it would be closing its seven London stores "immediately".
The skincare and fragrance company also paused all its online orders. Now, in a dramatic turnaround, the company has sent an email to customers announcing that its online store has reopened. It read: "We missed you. We're now accepting orders. Be the first to shop before we officially go live. Thank you for your patience while we've been on pause." Now, the online store does appear to be taking orders again. Malin + Goetz had stores in Spitalfields, Canary Wharf, Seven Dials, Soho, Islington, Battersea Power Station, and Borough Yards. In just over 20 years, the company grew to have stores in California and Hong Kong, open up flagship stores in the UK in 2022, and became established as a premium beauty brand.
The company also worked with third-party retailers, such as John Lewis and Space NK, where customers can still purchase their products.
In 2015, it was acquired by UK-based private equity firm Manzanita Capital, with the brand sold in 44 countries.
Following the store closures, it was reported more than 70 jobs were at risk.
Speaking at the time of the announcement, a spokesperson for the company said it had taken the "difficult and necessary decision" after "exhausting all viable alternatives".
They added: "This structural change will allow the business to focus on our ecommerce and third party retail channels where our customers increasingly choose to shop."
The company was first established in New York in 2004 and set out to "uncomplicate skincare" and started with six products from a New York apartment designed to work for all skin types.
According to its website, Malin + Goetz combines trusted natural ingredients with advanced technology to create its skincare, fragrance and candles that suit a modern lifestyle.
All products are reported to be cruelty-free and suitable for all genders.
The brand says it is guided by the philosophy of "less, but better" with a mission to "design high quality, easy-to-use skincare, fragrances and candles that fit into your modern lifestyle."
