Meghan Markle was mocked by fans online after a new book claimed she mentioned herself at least fifty times during a charity speech that she allegedly "f****d up" after she quit the Royal Family. New extracts serialised by The Times magazine from Tom Bower's forthcoming new book, Betrayal: Power, Deceit and the Fight for the Future of the Royal Family, saw the author talk about Meghan Markle's major charity speech at the One Young World Summit in 2022.
Mr Bower alleged that organisers were left baffled after Meghan made the charity speech all about herself and allegedly said "I" more than fifty times in 10 minutes. The author alleges: "In the countdown to the big moment, Ella Robertson read Meghan Markle's proposed speech on the Autocue. 'She's f****d it,' groaned Robertson.
"Instead of speaking as agreed about the charity One Young World, Meghan's speech was focused on herself. Nearly fifty times in just ten minutes, she intended to say 'I'."
Several fans found the claim funny and took to social media to mock the Duchess.
One user wrote on Reddit: "She is so in love with herself, it's disturbing."
Another one said: "And the pauses for adoration! Watched [the video of Meghan's speech] without sound too, so fake."
A third one opined: "Watching this without sound just shows how drunk she is on her own ego during this speech."
A fourth one added: "She was flying high during this speech. So dramatic."
A fifth one said: "So many words just to say absolutely nothing!"
The Sussex camp has dismissed Mr Bower's claims, with the couple's spokesperson saying: "Mr Bower's commentary has long crossed the line from criticism into fixation.
"This is someone who has publicly stated, 'the monarchy in fact depends on actually obliterating the Sussexes from our state of life,' language that speaks for itself.
"He has made a career out of constructing ever more elaborate theories about people he does not know and has never met.
"Those interested in facts will look elsewhere; those seeking deranged conspiracy and melodrama know exactly where to find him."
