A globally-renowned doctor has shared some simple ways to boost GLP-1 naturally. The hormone is produced in the gut, and it regulates appetite and blood sugar by signalling the brain and pancreas.

GLP-1 medications are currently being used by many across the UK and beyond to help manage their weight. But a doctor has shared how people may be able to promote GLP-1 levels without taking any drugs. Dr Mark Hyman, a well-known medical expert and educator, regularly shares updates with his millions of social media followers.

In a new post on Instagram this week, the doctor said: "Did you know GLP-1 is a hormone your body makes naturally? GLP-1 is released in the gut after you eat. It helps regulate appetite, blood sugar, and how quickly food leaves the stomach."

Text on the graphic he posted lists seven ways people can promote GLP-1 naturally. These include sleeping between seven and eight hours each night, consistently, and adding fibre and protein to every meal.

You may also want to try limiting ultra-processed foods, building meals around whole foods, eating slowly, exercising regularly, and taking a 10-15 minute walk after meals. Dr Hyman added: "Meals rich in protein and fibre tend to increase satiety hormones like GLP-1.

"Walking after meals helps the body handle glucose more efficiently. Regular exercise, good sleep, and limiting ultra-processed foods all support the metabolic pathways that regulate hunger and blood sugar.

"These habits are part of the biological foundation that helps your metabolism work the way it was designed to."
