Nitish Kumar Reddy may have unintentionally annoyed a few Indian selectors with his recent comments during a chat with newly appointed interim captain Ishan Kishan. At an SRH event before the IPL 2026, Reddy and two Indian cricketers participated in a playful activity while the host conducted a rapid-fire round.
The Indian all-rounder, currently part of India’s Test squad, surprised everyone by choosing T20Is as his preferred format instead of Test cricket. He created more excitement through his choice of ODIs instead of T20Is which generated public attention during his performance. Kishan quickly stepped in with a playful warning, reminding Reddy to pick Tests since the selectors “might be listening.”
The host at the SRH event requested Reddy to choose between two formats during the rapid-fire session. The 22-year-old again selected T20Is as his preferred format which surprised everyone. His captain and SRH teammate Kishan reacted instantly, joking that Reddy should remember his place in India’s Test side while answering.
The discussion about Reddy's bowling abilities began after the group had finished their previous topic. Kishan made fun of Reddy's ability to perform multiple cricket skills. Reddy delivered his answer by explaining he had bowled an entire over without allowing Kishan to score a single run during a practice session which took place the previous day. Their playful exchanges brought joy to their teammates and the crowd which resulted in people laughing throughout the entire performance space.
Reddy has represented Team India in all three formats so far. The young all-rounder has not played a T20I match since his appearance in January last year during a home series against England.

He participated in India’s ODI team during the New Zealand series earlier this year while he continues to play in the Test starting lineup. Since his debut in October 2024 Reddy has participated in 10 Test matches and four One Day Internationals and four T20 International matches for India.
He made his latest statements about T20I cricket being his preferred format through a humorous manner which will not change his Test match status. The franchise named Kishan as their IPL 2026 captain because Pat Cummins could not play due to his injury. The franchise also appointed explosive opener Abhishek Sharma as vice-captain until Cummins returns.
Kishan and Abhishek will join the SRH squad to play against the defending champions in their first IPL 2026 match which begins on March 28 at Bengaluru.
