Mumbai: It was a night of celebration for Indian squash as local favourites Abhay Singh and Anahat Singh clinched the men’s and women’s titles respectively on the final day of the JSW Indian Open 2026 at the Cricket Club of India on Sunday.
The men’s final featured an all-Indian contest, with second seed Abhay defeating fourth seed Veer Chotrani 3-0 (11-9, 11-8, 11-4). In the women’s final, top seed Anahat outclassed Egypt’s Hana Moataz 3-1 (11-5, 11-6, 9-11, 11-6).
Abhay was in dominant form throughout the men’s final. Although Chotrani mounted a spirited challenge in the opening two games, the second seed raised his level as the match progressed.
The first game was closely fought, with both players contesting every point. Abhay edged the contest 11-9 to take the early lead.
The second game followed a similar pattern, with long rallies keeping spectators engaged. Abhay, however, held his composure to win 11-8 and extend his advantage.
In the third game, Abhay stepped up his intensity, using sharp angles and powerful smashes to unsettle Chotrani, who struggled to respond. The second seed sealed the game 11-4 to complete a straight-games victory and secure the title.
“I’m really happy to have won the tournament. Indian squash is in a strong position right now, with four men in the top 50 and Anahat leading the way in the women’s circuit. The goal is the Los Angeles Olympics, but we have a big year ahead and need to defend gold. While we compete against each other on tour, it is also about coming together and supporting one another,” Abhay said.
Anahat dominates women’s final
Earlier, Anahat Singh produced a commanding display to defeat Moataz and lift the women’s title for the second consecutive year.
Despite Moataz’s experience, Anahat’s pace and precision proved decisive. She combined deceptive shot-making with swift court movement to keep her opponent under pressure.
The opening game was competitive, with the lead changing frequently before Anahat surged ahead with a string of points to win 11-5.
She carried the momentum into the second game, racing to a 5-1 lead and eventually taking it 11-6 to move closer to the title.

However, Anahat regained control in the fourth game. After trailing early, she fought back to take the lead and then won five consecutive points to close out the match 11-6.
“I think I played well in the first two games but lost focus in the third. My coach advised me to start strong in the fourth, and I am glad I could finish it. Hana played really well despite not being fully fit, and it was great to compete in such a match,” Anahat said.
