A fundraising initiative has been initiated to assist Mike Hinrichs following the devastating loss of his wife, NHL journalist Jessi Pierce, their three children, and their pet dog in a house fire in White Bear Lake. Reports indicate that Hinrichs was away on a work assignment when the fire erupted at their residence on March 21. Emergency services later confirmed the identities of the victims as 37-year-old Pierce and her children: Hudson, aged eight, Cayden, six, and Avery, four.
The GoFundMe campaign, organized by Diana Johnson-Salvador, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss, stating, "It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of Jessi Hinrichs (Pierce), her three children, and their family dog. Jessi had a larger-than-life personality and an even bigger heart. She was devoted to her family, going above and beyond to create many moments of joy and everlasting memories." The campaign further noted, "The children, each with their own unique personalities, shared Jessi's zest for life and love for adventure. They leave behind Mike, husband to Jessi and loving father of their children, who is now experiencing an unimaginably difficult time. We are raising funds to cover funeral expenses and to provide financial support for the family during this period of grief. Any contribution is appreciated." As of Monday afternoon, the fundraiser had amassed over $131,000, nearing its goal of $140,000.
Jessi Pierce had been a contributor to NHL.com for ten years, frequently covering the Minnesota Wild and collaborating directly with the team. The National Hockey League expressed its condolences, stating, "The entire National Hockey League family sends our prayers and deepest condolences to the Pierce family on the passing of Jessi Pierce and her three young children. Jessi loved our game and was a valued member of the NHL.com team for a decade. We will miss her terribly." The Minnesota Wild also expressed their sorrow, stating that the organization was "heartbroken" by the loss. "Jessi was a kind, compassionate person that cared deeply about her family and those around her. She served as a dedicated ambassador for the game of hockey during her time covering the Wild and the NHL," the team remarked. "Jessi and her children will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to their family, friends, and all who knew and loved them."
The White Bear Fire Department reported that firefighters arriving at the scene encountered a "fully involved structure fire" at the single-family home. After extinguishing the flames, they discovered the remains of one adult, three children, and a dog inside. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
