Indian equity benchmarks ended sharply lower on March 23, with broad-based selling pressure dragging indices down. The Nifty 50 closed just above the 22,500 mark, reflecting weakness across multiple sectors including financials, metals, and consumption.


At the close, the Sensex declined by 1,836.57 points or 2.46% to settle at 72,696.39, while the Nifty 50 fell 601.85 points or 2.60% to close at 22,512.65.


Top Nifty 50 Losers


Titan Company emerged as the biggest laggard of the session, closing at ₹3,842.6, down 6.4%.


Shriram Finance followed, ending at ₹880.8, declining 6.2%.


Trent closed at ₹3,347.0, registering a loss of 6.0%.


Jio Financial Services ended at ₹225.9, down 5.6%.


HDFC Life Insurance closed at ₹590.1, falling 5.4%.


UltraTech Cement settled at ₹10,350.0, down 5.3%.


Adani Enterprises ended at ₹1,831.0, declining 5.0%.


Tata Steel closed at ₹187.0, also down 5.0%.


Bharat Electronics settled at ₹405.2, slipping 4.9%.


HDFC Bank ended at ₹742.3, down 4.9%.
