The spring season is officially upon us, with the days getting lighter and longer. A change of seasons also ushers in a fresh start, especially if you're considering sprucing up your humble abode.
DIY experts and fans have pointed to spring being the ideal time to give your home a refresh, whether that be investing in a new lick of paint, swapping out heavy and cosy soft furnishings for something lighter, or doing a good old spring clean. Girls Aloud's Kimberley sat down with DailyExpress.co.uk at the recent launch of her new paint collaboration with Wickes, to discuss all things home renovation and DIY.
The bedroom is a sanctuary of calm and respite, and you want its atmosphere to chill you out when you're getting ready for bed. However, if you don't know where to start, DIY experts from Wickes and Kimberley shared their top paint picks for transforming your bedroom for the spring season.
Lewis Janes, Head of Decorating & Storage at Wickes, says spring is the ideal season to refresh your home: "This time of year is perfect for bringing natural light into your interiors and making rooms feel more open. The right shades can lift the mood while enhancing the sense of space."
Always add panellingKimberley explained that people tend to know what colours work for them in their bedroom, especially when helping them get to sleep. To elevate a simple bedroom, she recommends adding panelling to give the space depth and texture.
She told us: "In my bedroom, I focus more on the panelling, and I made the feature that rather than a strong, bold colour. And that really works, it just elevates the space...
"There's the new acoustic panelling I did in my son's room. Those kinds of things can really bring the room to life, but still keep it quite earthly and tonal if you don't want to go too wild with colour."
Soft Honey from Kimberley Walsh by Wickes Lewis pointed to Kimberley's newest interior paint Soft Honey (2.5l, £13) as a great paint to help brighten any bedroom space. He described it as "a warm, uplifting yellow with honeyed undertones that reflects daylight beautifully, creating a cosy, welcoming, and effortlessly elegant space."
When developing the paint, Kimberley enlisted the help of her son, Bobby, whose room proudly displays the cosy yellow hue.
Wheatgrass by CrownLewis explained that this soft "clay hue" is perfect for anyone who likes to keep their walls neutral. He described Wheatgrass (5l, £29) as "neutral yet inviting".
Sage No.85 by Wickes Shades of green can help your home usher in the spring season, bringing a sense of freshness and vibrancy from the outside in. Lewis' pick for spring is the Sage No.85 (2.5l, £13).
He described the paint colour as bringing a "gentle, timeless pastel green to the room".
Moonlight Bay by CrownMoonlight Bay (2.5l, £20) is a muted pastel blue, a perfect breath of fresh air for bedrooms in spring. Lewis explained that the Crown paint "introduces a softness ideal for creating a calm, restful space."
