Dominic Chinea is one of the most recognisable faces on The Repair Shop, but in recent years he has been working on projects away from the BBC programme.
This includes making changes and upgrading his workshop, endeavours he records via his YouTube channel. In one recent video he charted the installation of a new two post vehicle lift as it was successfully installed into his workshop.
At the end of the clip, Dominic expressed how happy he was that his garage was now looking much better than before.
However, he said he regretted that he would be unable to use it as soon as he would like due to filming commitments. Dominic explained: “I can’t wait to get stuck into some projects now in the workshop.
“Life is going to be a lot easier. All the windows are in, the roller shutters are in, the roof is bolted down, not leaking as badly, and I’ve got my nice flat concrete floor, and now a beautiful new two post lift.
"The only issue is I’m now in Chichester where it’s starting to film Repair Shop tomorrow, but I do kind of wish I was there able to use that new lift, but that’s going to have to wait until next week.”
The installation of a new lift isn’t the only new adventure Dominic and his wife Maria have been on since they moved from Kent to Cornwallwith their dog Wendy.
In the latest episode of the series Dom Chinea’s Cornish Workshop, Dominic tackled drifting for the first time.
Drifting is a form of motorsport where drivers throw their cars into, and attempt to hold them, in a prolonged slide known as a drift. Dominic built a drift car alongside engineer Sam Lovegrove which was built out of a Mazda MX5.
Speaking about engaging in the sport, Dominic said: “I've moved down here, moved down to Cornwall, willing to try new things.
"Drifting is something I have never done, never tried, and no experience in. But I would actually quite like to give it a go. It's something I'd quite like to learn. So we'll have to see.”
However, the adventure didn’t go according to plan with the car leaving the circuit and colliding with a barrier with Sam driving. Exiting the car, Sam said: “That didn't go so well!”
Meanwhile Dominic commented: “Seriously? I didn't even get a go. Are you kidding me? After all that work? Well, we wanted our car to make an impact. We started this crazy adventure in the hope we'd meet like-minded petrolheads. I'd say this was mission accomplished.”
