Emirates has issued a new travel warning that could affect Brits in Dubai amid an already chaotic time for travel in the Middle East. The world's largest international airline told passengers departing Dubai International Airport between March 23 and March 27 to allow more time for their journeys to the airport.
Torrential rain, lightning, and hail are all forecast across the city in the coming days, which will likely impact road visibility and driving conditions. Streets in Dubai and Abu Dhabi have become waterlogged, with people seen rushing to take shelter, prompting emergency services to also issue a safety warning.
Residents are being advised to adjust daily routines to reduce risks during this period. Urging people to stay safe and exercise caution, Dubai Police warned that thunderstorms are likely across the country on Tuesday.
Locals are also being reminded to keep an eye on the latest advice as weather warnings could be issued.
Dubai Police HQ said: "Given the current weather conditions across the country, thunder is expected. If there are any important updates or warnings, authorities will make sure to share them with you right away.
"We also encourage everyone to rely on official sources for accurate information and help stop the spread of rumours."
Separately, travellers have also been urged to arrive a minimum of two hours before their flight departs this week due to the conflict in the region.
Emirates passengers should check their flight status before heading to the airport, review the latest operational updates online, and check their email for any notifications regarding changes or cancellations.
The airline is still operating a limited schedule from Dubai International Airport, but announced plans to gradually return to full operations.
