Friends, if you have noticed, telecom companies promote only 28-day recharge plans, making it necessary for users to recharge for 13 months. In such a situation, with the aim of ensuring transparency and fairness for mobile users, the central government has urged telecom companies to actively promote their 30-day recharge plans. The aim of this move is to help consumers access accurate information and avoid unnecessary extra recharge, let’s know the complete details.

Why does this step matter?

Most prepaid mobile plans come with a validity of 28 days. This may seem like a monthly plan, but it actually forces users to recharge 13 times a year instead of 12.

TRAI’s current rules

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had raised this issue only in 2022. It mandated that every telecom operator must offer at least one 30-day plan in each of the following categories:

plan voucher

special tariff voucher

combo voucher

Despite this rule, awareness among the general public is still low, and telecom companies have not actively exposed these plans.

issue raised in parliament

The issue was also discussed in Parliament, where Raghav Chadha raised the question as to why users need to recharge 13 times when there are only 12 months in a year.

In response, Jyotiraditya Scindia clarified that TRAI has already made it mandatory for companies to include at least one 30-day plan. He stressed that telecom operators should now give more prominence to these plans so that consumers can truly enjoy the benefits of monthly validity.
