Ferrari are reportedly pushing for the FIA to lift a ban on testing during the break in the 2026 season. The cancellations of the Bahrain and Saudi Arabia Grand Prix means that there will be an extended break after the race in Japan.
Ahead of the Miami Grand Prix in May, Ferrari are keen to keep developing their technology. They are, however, limited by a cost cap.
There is also a rule, which was first brought in in 2009, which stops teams from testing their current cars throughout the season. According to Soymotor, Ferrari are calling for that ban to be lifted.
They are keen for the FIA to allow private testing during the break between the Japanese and Miami Grand Prix. Should they get the authorisation, then Ferrari are said to have the budget to be able to carry out the testing, due to the cancellation of the two races, which frees up some money.

The team are said to have already identified Monza as the 'perfect' place to conduct the tests. Ferrari will be looking to better understand the energy recovery and close the gap in that area on Mercedes.
It is said that not all teams are in agreement and would instead prefer to spend the money saved elsewhere. For Aston Martin, concentration is likely to be on resolving technical issues, with the team's reconfigured power unit meaning that there is not a lot they can learn from testing.
Energy management is expected to be a key factor in the race at Suzuka on Sunday, with the track being a tough one to overtake on. If Ferrari can manage that well, then their race start could give them the edge over rivals Mercedes for pole position.
