The state coroner’s court, while delivering its verdict on Wednesday, March 25, said that Zubin Garg’s death was due to accidental drowning. Police found no evidence of foul play. State Coroner Adam Nakhoda said the court had no reason to disagree with the police findings. The police have also concluded that it was a tragic accident.


According to a report in Singapore’s ‘Straits Times’, State Coroner Adam Nakhoda, in delivering his verdict, said there was no reason to disagree with the findings of the police and coastguard investigation based on the evidence before him and his analysis. The court also noted that sometime before the accident, Zubin Garg was asked to wear a life jacket, but he refused.

On January 14 this year, Police Coast Guard Assistant Superintendent David Lim testified in court. He said that Zubeen Garg was drinking at the time of the incident. He refused to put on a life vest before jumping off the yacht. The court was told that when Zubeen passed out, his friends were trying to convince him to swim back to the yacht. Officer Lim said witnesses during the investigation said the singer had no suicidal tendencies and was not pressured or coerced before his death.

The court also noted that on the same day, September 19, the yacht’s captain’s assistant testified. He said that no one forced the singer to drink alcohol or get into the water. Zubeen Garg and others on the yacht were warned to put on life jackets before swimming.
